Chee Dale is a stunning nature reserve located in the Peak District, near Buxton, Derbyshire. This steep-sided gorge along the River Wye features impressive carboniferous limestone crags and a variety of habitats, including ash woodlands and limestone grasslands. The area is part of the Wye Valley Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and is managed by the Derbyshire Wildlife Trust, making it a vital site for biodiversity and conservation. Visitors to Chee Dale can look forward to a rich tapestry of wildlife, particularly in May when species such as cowslips and Mandarin Ducks are most active. The reserve is also home to the White-throated Dipper, often seen bobbing along the river, especially in January. For butterfly enthusiasts, sightings of Meadow Browns peak in August, while Green-veined Whites and Common Blues are best observed in June. Early morning visits around 1:00 AM are recommended for the best chances of spotting these species.
