Charnwood Lodge is a stunning 134.2-hectare nature reserve located in Charnwood Forest, Leicestershire. This Site of Special Scientific Interest and national nature reserve features diverse habitats, including ancient woodlands, grasslands, and wetlands, all rich in geological history with 600 million-year-old rock formations. Managed by the Leicestershire and Rutland Wildlife Trust, it offers a tranquil escape for nature enthusiasts and casual visitors alike, with access available to LRWT members. Wildlife enthusiasts can expect to see a variety of species throughout the year, with notable peaks in November for goldfinches, blue tits, and great tits. February is a great time to spot robins and blackbirds, while March brings sightings of 7-spot ladybirds and soft-rush. The reserve is also home to bats, with ten species recorded, making dusk visits in summer particularly rewarding. For those interested in butterflies, the summer months are ideal for observing holly blue and green hair-streak butterflies.
