Charley Woods is a 26.8-hectare nature reserve located north of Copt Oak in Leicestershire, managed by the Leicestershire and Rutland Wildlife Trust. This ancient broadleaved woodland features a mosaic of habitats, including Cat Hill Wood and Burrow Wood, with a field nestled between them. Dominated by pedunculate oak, the reserve is rich in wildlife and offers a tranquil atmosphere for visitors, making it an ideal spot for nature enthusiasts throughout the year. Wildlife highlights include a variety of birds such as Nuthatch, Treecreeper, and all three native woodpecker species. Spring is particularly enchanting with the blooming bluebells, while October is noted for peak activity, showcasing species like the Meadow Pipit and Parrot Waxcap. Visitors can also spot the Speckled Wood butterfly in September and the 7-spot Ladybird in March, making Charley Woods a delightful destination for wildlife observation across the seasons.
