Charfield Meadow is a tranquil reserve characterized by its wildflower-rich grassland and sheltered by hedges and scrub. This secluded area is a haven for various plant species, with vibrant displays of cowslips and forget-me-nots in spring, followed by dyer's greenweed, betony, and saw-wort in summer. A small wet 'flush' runs through the reserve, supporting unique plant life such as ragged robin and sneezewort. The land has been managed by the Trust since its acquisition from British Rail in 1988. Wildlife enthusiasts can look forward to spotting a variety of species throughout the year. February is particularly noteworthy, with sightings of wrens, lesser white-fronted geese, and jackdaws peaking during this month. As spring progresses, keep an eye out for treecreepers in March and the arrival of lesser whitethroats and chiffchaffs in May. The summer months also bring greenfinches and starlings, making Charfield Meadow a delightful destination for birdwatching and butterfly observation.
