Chapel Bank is a picturesque nature reserve located in a dry chalk valley, featuring ancient woodland, scrub, and chalk grassland. This area is renowned for its diverse flora, including rare grasses and vibrant displays of bluebells and orchids, making it a vital habitat for various species. The reserve is easily accessible via street parking on North Downs Road and Thorpe Close, despite the busy traffic on the winding road leading to it. Visitors to Chapel Bank can expect to see a variety of wildlife, particularly in spring and summer when wildflowers attract numerous butterflies. Notable species include the Common Lizard and various butterflies like the Small Heath and Glanville Fritillary, with peak activity in May. For birdwatchers, the Western Barn Owl and Little Owl are best observed at dusk in June. Early morning visits around 01:00 are ideal for spotting many species, including the Hairy Shieldbug and 2-spot Ladybird.
