Centre of the Earth is a transformed half-hectare site located next to the Soho Loop of the Birmingham canal. Originally a derelict corporation yard, it now serves as a vibrant natural landscape dedicated to environmental education, urban eco-therapy, and community engagement. While not an open reserve, it offers various activities for the public and groups, focusing on wildlife, sustainable development, and well-being in nature. Wildlife enthusiasts can look out for species such as Canada Goose, Coot, Dunnock, and Wren, which peak in activity during April, particularly around 1:00 AM. Other notable sightings include Great Spotted Woodpecker in January and various insects like epistrophe eligans and helophilus pendulus in the summer months. The Centre of the Earth provides a unique opportunity to engage with nature while participating in community-led activities throughout the year.
