Cemlyn Nature Reserve, located on the rugged north coast of Anglesey, features a distinctive elliptical shingle ridge known as Esgair Cemlyn. This habitat supports a variety of specialist plant species, including sea kale and yellow horned-poppy, while the adjacent shallow lagoon is home to the rare spiralled tassleweed. Surrounding gorse and grassland provide vital habitats for numerous butterflies and birds, making this site a significant ecological area. The best time to visit Cemlyn is from May to July, when the lagoon's islands host nesting colonies of Sandwich, common, and Arctic terns, with peak sightings occurring around 14:00. Other notable species include red-breasted mergansers and Mediterranean gulls, both peaking in May. Year-round, visitors can also spot ringed plovers and little egrets, with optimal viewing times around 01:00. This unique wildlife spectacle is not to be missed!
