Cefn Cenarth is a stunning sessile oak woodland located in Wales, renowned for its rich diversity of lichens and mosses. The name translates to "Ridge of Lichens," reflecting the over one hundred lichen species and around forty moss species found here. Visitors can enjoy the vibrant carpets of cushion moss and the thriving common and bell heather in sunny glades, making it a unique habitat for both flora and fauna. Wildlife enthusiasts can look out for a variety of birds, including chiffchaffs, treecreepers, and redstarts, particularly in May when activity peaks. Notable sightings include jackdaws and stock doves, which are best observed around 1:00 AM, while tawny owls are most active at dawn. The reserve also hosts brown hares and Eurasian curlews, with the latter peaking in June around 1:00 PM.
