Cattersty Gill is a picturesque nature reserve located high on the cliffs above Skinningrove, featuring wildflower-rich grassland and serving as a vital stopover for migrating birds. The reserve is accessible on foot, with a steep path leading from the nearby beach car park or along the Cleveland Way. Visitors can enjoy the stunning views from the clifftop, but should be mindful of the steep slopes and the need to keep dogs on a lead to protect the wildlife. Wildlife enthusiasts can look for species such as Red Grouse and Grey Squirrel, with peak sightings occurring in January and February, respectively. March is an excellent time to spot Dog's Mercury, Song Thrush, and Adder, while Barn Owls are best observed in October. For those keen on early visits, the best time for sightings tends to be around noon, particularly in the winter months.
