Catcott Nature Reserve is a stunning wetland mosaic located in the Avalon Marshes, featuring traditional hay meadows, wet woodland, and grazing marsh. This internationally renowned site is composed of Catcott Lows and Catcott Heath, and is designated as a nature reserve due to its rich biodiversity and significant habitats. The reserve is managed primarily for wet grassland wildlife, showcasing a variety of ecosystems that support numerous species year-round. Birdwatchers will find Catcott particularly rewarding, especially during the winter months when large numbers of wildfowl and waders, such as Wigeon, Pintail, and Lapwing, populate the flooded fields. Notable sightings peak in July for Great Egret and September for Cattle Egret and Water Rail, with the best viewing times often around dusk. Spring and autumn also bring migratory species like Ringed Plover and Greenshank, making it a vibrant destination for wildlife enthusiasts throughout the year.
