Caeau Tan-y-bwlch Nature Reserve is a traditional hay meadow located in North Wales, renowned for its vibrant wildflower displays in spring and summer. The reserve features a mix of dry and wet habitats, including a mosaic of grassland and willow carr, and is protected as a Coronation Meadow. Managed through traditional practices, it serves as a vital reminder of the UK’s diminishing hay meadows, with efforts to restore and create new wildflower habitats in the region. Wildlife enthusiasts can expect to see a variety of species, particularly in May when activity peaks. Look for woodcock, common buzzard, and various bumblebees, with sightings best observed around dusk or late at night. The reserve is particularly stunning in late June and early July when the greater butterfly-orchid blooms, creating a picturesque landscape filled with life.
