Cae Eglwys Nature Reserve is a prime example of a traditional wildflower meadow, showcasing a rare habitat amidst intensively managed farmland. Located in a picturesque area, the reserve features a diverse array of colourful and less common plants, including adder’s tongue fern and common spotted orchids in spring, and a vibrant display of knapweed and harebell in summer. The reserve is also noted for its stunning views of the Brecon Beacons and the Black Mountains. Wildlife enthusiasts can look for a variety of species throughout the year. Notable sightings include the Pine Marten in March and Red Kite in November, both peaking around midnight. In May, keep an eye out for Brown Hare and Redstart, while June offers opportunities to spot the Keeled Skimmer and Pipistrelle Bat. The reserve's rich flora attracts butterflies, and winter visitors can enjoy the sight of birds feeding on seedheads.
