Cadishead & Little Woolden Moss, located in Salford, is a vital restoration project focusing on the recovery of lowland peatlands. Once heavily exploited for peat extraction, these reserves are now home to thriving habitats of sphagnum moss, cottongrass, and diverse wildlife. The area is managed by Lancashire Wildlife Trust, which has implemented significant restoration efforts, including rewetting the landscape to support peatland flora and fauna while preserving carbon stores. Wildlife enthusiasts can expect to see a variety of species throughout the year. Notable sightings include gray partridge in July and short-eared owls in January, both peaking around 14:00. June is an excellent time for spotting common quail at dusk, while lapwing and skylark can be observed breeding in July. The rare bog bush cricket can be heard calling among the heather in summer, making this reserve a unique destination for wildlife observation.
