Bwlytai Wood is a small, ancient woodland located near Trefonen, notable for its vibrant display of bluebells and wood anemones in spring. This local interest site was gifted to the Trust by former resident Bridget Gledhill and features a mix of broadleaf trees, including ash, oak, and rowan, following a period of clear felling. A unique beech tree with branches fused into a window adds character to the wood, making it a delightful spot for exploration and den-building. Wildlife enthusiasts can look for grey squirrels, particularly active in October, as well as various insects like the tawny mining bee, which peaks in April. Other species of interest include rabbits in June and ladybirds in September. The best times for observing wildlife are typically around midnight for squirrels and during the day for other species, making Bwlytai Wood a charming destination for nature lovers throughout the year.
