Burtle Moor is a sensitive nature reserve located in Somerset, featuring a mix of nationally scarce rush pasture and species-rich mire vegetation. The reserve is characterized by its diverse plant communities, including Meadowsweet, Ragged Robin, and Southern Marsh Orchid. It serves as an important habitat for various bird species, notably as a breeding and wintering ground for Snipe and Jack Snipe. Access is restricted to August, September, and October without a permit, while other times require prior permission. Wildlife enthusiasts can expect to see a variety of species throughout the year, with notable sightings of Great Egret and Western Cattle-Egret peaking in July and August, respectively, best observed at dusk. September is an excellent month for spotting Water Rail and Eurasian Hobby, while winter months attract Northern Lapwing and Mute Swan. The reserve's rich biodiversity makes it a rewarding destination for birdwatchers and nature lovers alike.
