Burns Beck Moss is a unique nature reserve featuring both raised and valley mires, located in Cumbria. This wild and undisturbed habitat supports a diverse range of plant and animal species, making it a significant ecological site. The reserve has been designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and is managed by Cumbria Wildlife Trust, which has worked to restore its wetland features since acquiring the site in 1995. During spring and summer, visitors can enjoy the sights and sounds of various wetland birds, including curlew, sedge warbler, and meadow pipit. Notable sightings include the St Marks Fly and Carrion Crow, with peak activity in April around 1:00 AM. The reserve is also home to butterflies like the green hairstreak and small pearl-bordered fritillary, making it an excellent destination for wildlife enthusiasts throughout the warmer months.
