Bubwith Acres is a diverse nature reserve located on the Mendip Hills, featuring limestone grassland, heath, and areas of bracken encroachment. The site showcases a variety of habitats, including unimproved acid and mesotrophic grasslands, limestone outcrops, and relic heath, making it a rich environment for wildflowers and wildlife. Notable flora includes Pignut, Common Knapweed, and Lousewort, while the management practices of light grazing and scrub clearance help maintain its ecological balance. Wildlife enthusiasts can look for species such as the Eurasian Sparrowhawk and various corvids, with sightings peaking in spring and summer. April is particularly active, with species like the Blue Tit and Carrion Crow observed around this time. For butterfly watchers, the Grizzled Skipper and Dark Green Fritillary are notable highlights during the warmer months. Early morning and dusk are ideal times for observing many of these species, making visits at these times rewarding.
