Brynna Woods and Llanharan Marsh offer a diverse habitat of woodland and meadows, featuring a mix of ash, oak, willow, and hazel trees. The site is traversed by the Ewenni Fach watercourse and several smaller streams, creating a rich environment for wildlife. Notably, it is a haven for dormice, which are legally protected due to their declining populations. The area also has historical significance, with remnants of coal mining visible in Brynna Wood, adding to its character. Wildlife enthusiasts can look forward to observing species such as the Common Buzzard, particularly active in June, and the Grey Heron, which peaks in August. Spring is a great time to spot Meadow Pipits and Kingfishers, while February is ideal for seeing Common Lizards and Sparrowhawks. With the best observation times often around 01:00, visitors are encouraged to explore the reserve during these peak hours for a chance to see a variety of birds and other wildlife.
