Brookes Nature Reserve is a tranquil woodland area situated on a chalky boulder clay plateau, featuring a network of permissive paths, including a historic green lane and a bridleway. The reserve is characterized by a diverse array of trees such as Ash, Maple, Oak, and the rarer Wild Service tree, creating a rich habitat for various flora and fauna. Visitors can expect to see a variety of wildlife throughout the year, with notable sightings including the Comma and Speckled Wood butterflies peaking in July and September, respectively. Birdwatchers may spot Eurasian Sparrowhawks, Common Buzzards, and Great Spotted Woodpeckers during the quieter hours of dusk in January. Spring brings the chance to observe Marsh Tits and the vibrant blooms of Primroses and Violets, making it an ideal time to explore the reserve.
