Brook Vessons is a captivating nature reserve located on the edge of The Stiperstones, featuring a diverse landscape of towering hedgerows, ancient trees, tangled woodlands, and boggy pastures. This atmospheric site adjoins The Hollies and is notable for its impressive collection of giant trees, including some of the broadest rowans and the largest birch, holly, and crab apple trees in Shropshire. The area is steeped in history, with remnants of a once-thriving mining village, The Paddock, which was abandoned in the early 20th century. Wildlife enthusiasts can look for species such as the Blue-tailed Damselfly and Hazel Dormouse, both peaking in activity during July around 01:00. Other notable sightings include Field Voles in January and various flowering plants like Harebell in June and Rosebay Willowherb in May, with peak observation times typically around 01:00. The reserve offers a unique opportunity to experience its rich biodiversity throughout the year, with each season bringing its own highlights.
