Brockwells Meadows is a remarkable nature reserve in Gwent, featuring four grassy fields with a mix of field and kissing gates for access. The terrain is steep and can be muddy, with cattle grazing the land, so dogs must be kept on leads. This site is noted for its exceptional limestone grassland, hosting over 70 plant species, including the striking green-winged orchids and yellow-worts, making it a vibrant spectacle in late spring and summer. Wildlife enthusiasts can look forward to a variety of species throughout the year. Notable sightings include the Hairy Shieldbug and the Marmalade Hoverfly, peaking in August and April, respectively. Birdwatchers may spot Gadwall in January and Teal in March, while the 7-spot Ladybird is best observed in April. For a unique experience, visit in autumn to see the diverse grassland fungi that replace the wildflowers.
