Broadway Gravel Pit is a seasonally-flooded former gravel pit located in Worcestershire, featuring a diverse habitat of open water, scrub, and carr woodland. This reserve is home to a rich variety of plants, birds, and mammals, making it an attractive destination for nature enthusiasts year-round. Notable flora includes over 160 recorded plant species, such as the uncommon mare’s-tail, and five species of willow that support a wide range of insects and nesting birds. The site is managed by Worcestershire Wildlife Trust and owned by Wychavon District Council. Wildlife highlights at Broadway Gravel Pit vary with the seasons. In June, visitors can expect to see and hear lesser whitethroats, dunnocks, and harlequin ladybirds, particularly around 1:00 AM when activity peaks. Autumn brings sightings of marsh tits and robins, while winter is ideal for observing flocks of long-tailed tits. The reserve also attracts a range of breeding waterfowl, including mallards, moorhens, and coots, making it a vibrant spot for birdwatching throughout the year.
