Broad Pool, located 3 km northeast of Reynoldston in Gower, Swansea, is a prominent natural feature known for its rich biodiversity. This shallow pool, which has existed since at least 1645, has undergone modifications over the years but remains a vital habitat for various aquatic plants and wildlife. It is particularly noted for its assemblage of uncommon species, including Lesser Marshwort and Alternate Flowered Water-milfoil, as well as the Fringed Water-lily, which was introduced in the 1950s. Wildlife enthusiasts can expect to see a variety of bird species, particularly in March when activity peaks. Look out for Rooks, Stonechats, and Eurasian Skylarks during this time, with sightings best around 15:00. Other notable species include Grey Herons in February and Eurasian Nightjars in June, the latter best observed at dusk. The reserve also supports a diverse range of amphibians and dragonflies, making it a rewarding destination for nature lovers throughout the year.
