Brickfield Meadow Nature Reserve is a charming unimproved meadow located on the edge of the Ashdown Forest in Fairwarp. This rare habitat has largely disappeared from Britain, with over 97% lost in the past 70 years due to agricultural practices. The meadow is traditionally managed through summer hay cuts and light grazing, promoting a diverse range of fine-leaved grasses and wildflowers. Visitors can enjoy this unique landscape free of charge, supported by membership contributions to Sussex Wildlife Trust. Wildlife enthusiasts can look for species such as the Stonechat, which peaks in August, and the Song Thrush, best observed in April. The Hedge Woundwort is notable in July. For the best chances of sightings, early morning visits around 01:00 are recommended, particularly in April when overall activity is at its highest.
