Braeburn Park is a 22.3-hectare nature reserve located in Crayford, south-east London, managed by the London Wildlife Trust. This former orchard, quarry, and landfill site has transformed into a vibrant habitat featuring a mix of scrub, tall herbs, relict orchard, mature woodland, sandy banks, and steep cliffs. It is designated as a Site of Borough Importance for Nature Conservation and includes Wansunt Pit, a geological Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) known for its Pleistocene Dartford Heath Gravels. Wildlife enthusiasts can look forward to spotting a variety of species throughout the year, with peak activity noted in August. Common birds such as woodpigeons and jackdaws can be observed, while butterflies like the Meadow Brown and Small White are best seen in July and April, respectively. The reserve also hosts reptiles, including grass snakes and common lizards, making it a diverse spot for nature lovers. For the best experience, visit during the early morning hours, particularly around 1:00 AM, when many species are most active.
