Bradlaugh Fields is a 60-hectare nature reserve located in the heart of Northampton, comprising three distinct meadow areas within the larger Bradlaugh Fields Park complex. This site features unimproved, semi-natural limestone grassland and ancient hedgerows, showcasing a rich variety of flora typical of calcareous habitats, including yellow-rattle, knapweeds, and bird's-foot trefoil. The reserve is managed by the Wildlife Trust for Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Northamptonshire, and includes the Local Nature Reserves of Hills and Holes and Scrub Field. Wildlife enthusiasts can expect to see a variety of species throughout the year, with March being the standout month for observations. Look for goldcrests at dusk, as well as greenfinches and robins peaking around midnight. Redwings are best spotted in December, while the common kingfisher can be seen in October. For those visiting in July, coal tits and woodpigeons are more active during the evenings. Keep an eye out for foxes and badgers at dawn or dusk, adding to the diverse wildlife experience at Bradlaugh Fields.
