Bowness on Solway is a small yet diverse nature reserve located in a former gravel quarry, now thriving with various habitats including ponds, scrub, and grassland. The reserve features a waymarked circular route of 1.4 km, with boardwalks over wetter areas and some wheelchair-accessible paths. Its unique environment supports a rich array of wildlife, making it an intriguing destination for nature enthusiasts throughout the year. Wildlife highlights include sightings of the Eurasian Tree Sparrow, peaking in August around 16:00, and the Barnacle Goose, best observed in January at 14:00. Visitors may also spot Harris's Hawk in December at 11:00, along with various other species like the Eurasian Curlew and European Stonechat during their respective peak months. The reserve is particularly vibrant in August, making it an excellent time for wildlife observation.
