Bowesfield nature reserve is situated within three distinct loops of the River Tees, each offering unique habitats and wildlife experiences. Visitors can explore surfaced paths around lakes and pools, where reed beds attract various waterfowl. The reserve also features informal paths leading to muddy edges ideal for waders, as well as floodplain and wooded slopes that support songbirds, deer, and wildflowers. Free parking is available near Archers Law, with alternative on-street options nearby. Wildlife enthusiasts can look for Red Grouse peaking in January around midday, while Grey Squirrels are best observed in February. March is a great time to spot Dog's Mercury and Song Thrush, with their activity peaking around noon. For those interested in nocturnal species, Barn Owls are most active in October, typically around 1 AM. Overall, Bowesfield offers a diverse range of species throughout the year, making it a rewarding destination for nature lovers.
