Bonne Terre Valley, the largest valley on Alderney, features a diverse landscape that slopes from the south towards the northern sea. This area includes a freshwater stream, a pond behind a dam, and a historic water mill. While not formally designated as a nature reserve, it is managed by the Alderney Society and the Alderney Wildlife Trust, making it an important site for local biodiversity and conservation efforts. Visitors can expect to see a variety of wildlife, particularly in June when many species peak in activity around 01:00. Look out for the Summer Chafer, Common Cockchafer, and various beetles, including the Sulphur Beetle and the 7-spot Ladybird. The valley is also home to orchids, such as the Bee Orchid, which can be spotted during this vibrant month. For those interested in reptiles, Slow-worms are best observed in August.
