Blagrove Common is a remarkable area of unimproved marshy grassland located in Hertfordshire, designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). This diverse habitat features a mix of marshy and dry neutral grassland, bisected by a stream. The site is rich in plant life, particularly known for its abundance of orchids, including Early Marsh, Southern Marsh, and Common Spotted Orchids, alongside various hybrids and other grassland species. Wildlife enthusiasts can look out for the Gatekeeper butterfly and Song Thrush, with peak sightings occurring in June. The best time to visit for these species is around 01:00, particularly in June when activity is at its highest. The unique combination of habitats at Blagrove Common offers a delightful experience for nature lovers throughout the warmer months.
