Blacka Moor is a stunning nature reserve located on Hathersage Road between Sheffield and Hathersage in the Peak District National Park. Spanning 181 hectares, it is part of the internationally significant Eastern Peak District Moors, designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). The reserve features a diverse landscape with heather, woodland, and open moor, and is home to unique wildlife, including bilberry bumblebees and red deer, the UK's largest mammal. Wildlife enthusiasts can expect to see a variety of species throughout the year, with peak sightings occurring in February for red deer, woodpigeons, woodcocks, wrens, and finches. December is a great time for spotting blue and long-tailed tits, while great spotted woodpeckers are best observed in April. Visiting during these peak months and times will enhance your chances of encountering the rich biodiversity that Blacka Moor has to offer.
