Black Lake is a nature reserve located in the Delamere Forest, Cheshire, England. This small pool and associated bog is designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) due to its unique early-stage Schwingmoor basin fen habitat. Managed by the Cheshire Wildlife Trust, the reserve features a delicate sphagnum raft covering half of the lake, supporting a diverse range of flora and fauna, including various dragonflies and damselflies. Wildlife enthusiasts can look for species such as the Common Toad, with peak sightings in July, and various dragonflies like the Blue-tailed Damselfly in June. March is particularly notable for birdwatching, with sightings of Teal, Coot, and Canada Goose peaking during this month. For the best experience, visit around midnight for peak activity or at dusk in April to catch a glimpse of the Mediterranean Gull.
