Bissoe Valley is a remarkable nature reserve located on a former mine site, showcasing a successful restoration programme initiated in 1986. The area features newly planted woodlands, ponds, and regenerating heathland, making it an excellent example of creative conservation. This diverse habitat supports various wildlife, including notable species like the scarce blue-tailed damselfly and the distinctive grayling butterfly. Wildlife enthusiasts can look for a variety of species throughout the year, with February being the best month for sightings. Notable observations include the Great Spotted Woodpecker and Peregrine Falcon, both peaking at dusk. Additionally, the Common Darter is best spotted in August, while the Swollen-thighed Beetle and Buzzard are more active during the early hours of June.
