Big Pool Wood Nature Reserve
UK Wildlife Trusts
Big Pool Wood Nature Reserve, located 2.5 miles east of Prestatyn, features a delightful mix of reed beds and woodland, making it a haven for diverse bird and plant life. The site is part of the Dee Estuary Special Protection Area, which supports a significant population of waterfowl and waders during winter. Visitors can explore the reserve via boardwalks and a bird hide, providing excellent opportunities to observe wildlife up close. Wildlife enthusiasts can expect to see a variety of species throughout the year, with peak sightings in July. Notable birds include the Little Tern and Ringed Plover, both peaking in June, while the Reed Warbler and Reed Bunting are best observed around 1 PM in July. Spring brings the arrival of migratory birds, and the vibrant bluebells in the woodland add to the seasonal charm, making it an ideal time to visit.
