Bickham Wood is a damp ancient deciduous woodland located on the edge of the Blackdown Hills AONB, featuring semi-natural grassland meadows. The reserve is notable for its rich biodiversity, including a variety of woodland flowers such as Wood Anemone, Bluebell, and Early-Purple Orchid, particularly vibrant in spring. The area is also home to twelve species of fern, including the rare Beech Fern, and supports a diverse range of fungi, making it a site of regional importance. Visitors to Bickham Wood can expect to see a variety of wildlife, particularly in spring when the woodland flowers bloom. The site is also a haven for summer migrant birds like Wood Warblers and Redstarts, while wintering woodcock can be spotted probing the damp ground. Notably, the Palmate Newt is observed here, with peak activity occurring in March, making it an ideal time for wildlife enthusiasts to visit and explore the reserve's rich offerings.
