Betchcott Hill is a scenic nature reserve located between the Stiperstones ridge and the Long Mynd, featuring gentle slopes of firm grass and a variety of walking routes. Visitors can access the reserve via field gates at both ends of the Portway, with parking available at the top. The area offers stunning views of the Shropshire plains and is currently undergoing habitat restoration to enhance its wildlife value, particularly for acid grassland species. Wildlife enthusiasts can look for species such as meadow pipits, skylarks, and nesting curlew during their visit. Notable plant sightings include lady-fern and tawny sedge, both peaking in July, while treecreepers and greater bird's-foot-trefoil are best observed in May. The reserve is particularly vibrant in July, making it an ideal time for exploration, but visitors should be mindful of nesting birds and grazing animals.
