Benshaw Moor is a remote and wild nature reserve managed by the Northumberland Wildlife Trust, located near Elsdon in Redesdale, Northumberland. This large site features a diverse range of habitats, including blanket bog, marshy grassland, and heathland, making it a haven for wildlife. Visitors should be prepared for uneven and boggy terrain, and it is advisable to wear wellingtons or sturdy walking boots when exploring the area. Wildlife enthusiasts can look forward to spotting species such as the Eurasian Goshawk, which peaks in January around midday, and the Red Crossbill, best observed at dawn during the same month. Other notable sightings include the Merlin in August and the Red Grouse in October. The reserve is also home to a variety of butterflies, including the Common Blue, which peaks in July. With its rich biodiversity, Benshaw Moor offers a unique experience for those willing to venture into its wild landscapes.
