Beaconwood and the Winsel, part of the National Trust’s Chadwich Estate, is an 11-hectare woodland located on the edge of Birmingham. Renowned for its stunning bluebell displays in spring, the reserve features a diverse range of trees, including oaks, beech, and sweet chestnut. The area is managed by WWT and offers excellent walking opportunities year-round, with enchanting scenery that changes with the seasons. Wildlife enthusiasts can look for a variety of birds, including pied flycatchers, buzzards, and owls, which thrive in the dense canopy and understorey. July is the best month for sightings, particularly for jackdaws and meadow plant bugs, with peak activity around 01:00. Spring is also a vibrant time to visit, as the woodland flowers bloom, adding to the reserve's charm.
