Bathampton Meadow is a vibrant nature reserve featuring wet meadows and an ox-bow lake, located near Bath. Established in 1996 primarily for flood relief, this site has become a haven for a variety of migrant and water birds, as well as butterflies and dragonflies. The diverse habitats support an array of wildlife, making it an important ecological area. Visitors can expect to see a range of bird species, particularly during spring and autumn when waders like dunlin and plovers frequent the muddy margins. April is the best month for birdwatching, with notable sightings including blackcaps and goldcrests peaking around 01:00. Additionally, look out for dragonflies and butterflies, including the small blue, which thrive in this rich environment.
