Barossa is a 498-hectare nature reserve located north of Camberley in Surrey, owned by the Ministry of Defence and managed by the Surrey Wildlife Trust. This diverse area features open dry heathland interspersed with mixed woodland, making it part of the Thames Basin Heaths Special Protection Area and the Broadmoor to Bagshot Woods and Heaths Site of Special Scientific Interest. Public access is limited to the Dry Training Area, with the Range Danger Area closed to the public, and visitors must adhere to Military Byelaws. Wildlife enthusiasts can look for a variety of species, particularly in March when activity peaks, featuring sightings of chaffinches, mallards, and goldfinches. Summer months bring the chance to see butterflies like the Gatekeeper and Red Admiral, with notable activity occurring around 1:00 AM. Additionally, ground-nesting birds such as Dartford warblers and nightjars can be spotted, while reptiles like adders and grass snakes inhabit the heathland.
