Barley Valley Park is a charming local nature reserve located in the Redhills area of Exeter, covering 11 hectares of rolling hills and tranquil walks. Managed by Devon Wildlife Trust, it features a diverse landscape of woods and meadows, with a network of footpaths and bridleways that allow for extended exploration of the surrounding farmland. While a small woodland area is currently closed due to ash dieback disease, the rest of the park remains open for visitors to enjoy its scenic views and natural beauty. Wildlife enthusiasts can look out for various species throughout the year, with notable sightings including Black-headed Gulls in February and Blue Tits in December. January is particularly rewarding, showcasing Eurasian Bullfinches and White-throated Dippers, often spotted around midday. Other species such as Mute Swans and Great Spotted Woodpeckers can be seen in March and October, respectively. Visitors are encouraged to explore during these peak months for the best chances of observing the park's diverse wildlife.
