Barkbooth Lot is a diverse nature reserve featuring rough fell, grassland, wetland, and wooded areas, providing a rich habitat for a variety of wildlife. Located in a picturesque setting, the reserve is home to the rare high brown fritillary butterfly, as well as numerous dragonflies and damselflies. It is an important site for conservation, showcasing a mosaic of habitats that support a wide range of species throughout the year. Visitors can enjoy a wealth of wildlife, particularly in June when activity peaks for species like the beautiful demoiselle damselfly and four-spotted chaser dragonfly. The reserve is also a great place to spot redpolls in July, especially at dusk. Spring brings the melodic songs of willow warblers and blackcaps, while autumn offers a chance to see wax cap fungi. Each season presents unique opportunities to discover the rich biodiversity of Barkbooth Lot.
