Ban-y-Gor nature reserve is a secluded woodland located near the River Wye, featuring ancient coppice and pollards surrounded by lush ferns and mosses. The diverse tree canopy includes species such as beech, ash, and silver birch, while yew dominates the shrub layer. This self-sustaining woodland is managed to promote native flora and fauna, making it an excellent example of a natural habitat that supports a variety of wildlife. Visitors can look for species like Goldcrest and Skylark, with peak sightings occurring in June and February, respectively. April is a great time to spot Coal Tit, Blackcap, and Song Thrush, while Hazel Dormouse can be observed in July. The best times for wildlife activity generally fall around midnight or early morning, making dawn and dusk ideal for exploration.
