Balloo Woodland is a charming, long-established woodland located in Bangor, managed in partnership with Ards and North Down Borough Council. This reserve is a vital part of the local wildlife network and features a diverse range of habitats, including mature trees like oak, beech, and Scot's pine, alongside a small pond and a wildflower meadow. The woodland, once part of the gardens of Balloo House, offers a peaceful retreat for visitors seeking to connect with nature. Wildlife enthusiasts can expect to see a variety of birds throughout the year, with notable peaks in sightings during January and March. Look out for species such as the Rock Pigeon and House Sparrow, which are most active around midday, as well as the Coal Tit and Great Tit peaking in September and November, respectively. Spring brings vibrant displays of bluebells and songbirds, while winter offers the chance to spot flocks of long-tailed tit and goldcrest among the trees.
