Balloo Wetland, established in 2008, is a vibrant urban nature reserve located in the heart of Bangor. This diverse habitat features ponds, reedbeds, and wet woodland, providing a sanctuary for various wildlife. The reserve is managed in partnership with Ards and North Down Borough Council, ensuring the maintenance of paths and the wildflower meadow to support both visitors and local fauna. Wildlife enthusiasts can spot a variety of species throughout the year, with peak activity in January when species like Dunnocks, Goldfinches, and Starlings are most frequently observed. Spring brings breeding frogs and newts, while summer showcases dragonflies and a stunning wildflower meadow. For the best viewing times, visit around midday, especially in January when many birds are most active.
