Ballamooar Meadow is a small yet vibrant nature reserve located within a larger area of curragh near the Lhen Trench. This seasonally wet meadow features diverse habitats, including a curragh on its eastern edge, and boasts over 100 recorded plant species. The reserve is managed through annual late summer grass cutting, promoting a rich and varied ecosystem that attracts both flora and fauna. Visitors to Ballamooar Meadow can expect to see a variety of wildlife, particularly during the peak month of July when many species are most active. Look for the Red-necked Wallaby, which has a notable presence, especially around midnight. Other highlights include Yorkshire-fog and Sweet Vernal-grass, both peaking in June, along with a range of flowering plants such as Common Ragwort and Purple-loosestrife, which thrive in July.
