Baker's Pit Nature Reserve, located in Ludgvan, west Cornwall, is a former china clay quarry managed by the Cornwall Wildlife Trust. The reserve features a 1.5-mile circular trail that showcases a variety of archaeological features, including Bronze Age roundhouses and remnants of the china clay industry. Visitors can explore the moorland habitat, which is characterized by its heathland flora and fauna, while suitable footwear is recommended due to muddy footpaths. Wildlife enthusiasts can look for species such as the azure damselfly, which peaks in May, particularly around 1:00 AM. The reserve is also home to the western barn owl, best observed at dusk in August. Additionally, the vibrant yellow blooms of western gorse in late summer attract various insects and birds, including stonechats and linnets, making it a lively spot for wildlife observation throughout the seasons.
