Aust is a developing pasture woodland located in a former agricultural field, which was transformed in the late 1990s with a mix of native and non-native trees, both broadleaved and coniferous. Currently in its early management stages, efforts are underway to make the boundary stockproof, enhancing the site's character as a pasture woodland. Wildlife enthusiasts can look forward to a variety of species, particularly in late summer and early autumn. Notable sightings include the Red Admiral and Speckled Wood butterflies peaking in August, while several bat species, including Leisler's and Pipistrelle bats, are most active in September. The best time for observing these creatures is around 01:00, making it an ideal spot for nocturnal wildlife watching.
