Astonbury Wood is an ancient woodland located near Stevenage in Hertfordshire, England, and is designated as a Local Wildlife Site. This rich habitat features a diverse array of flora and fauna, including sweeping carpets of Bluebells in spring, small streams, and ponds. The wood is predominantly Oak Hornbeam coppice and is recognized nationally for its impressive variety of fungi, boasting 750 species. Wildlife enthusiasts can visit Astonbury Wood throughout the year to experience its unique offerings. Spring is particularly vibrant with Bluebells and songbirds like the Chiffchaff, while summer brings butterflies such as the Speckled Wood. Notable sightings include the Mistle Thrush in July and the Rose Chafer in March, both best observed at dusk.
