Ashtons Meadow is a Site of Special Scientific Interest located in Nottinghamshire, featuring an ancient meadow surrounded by species-rich hedgerows. This traditionally maintained habitat has not been treated with chemicals or ploughed for many years, allowing for the preservation of original ridges and furrows. Visitors can admire a diverse array of wildflowers, including cowslips, green-winged orchids, and yellow rattle, making it a vital refuge for flora and fauna in the region. Wildlife enthusiasts can expect to see a variety of species throughout the year, with peak activity for the Pochard in January and Kestrel sightings in June. Spring and summer are ideal for observing the vibrant wildflowers and butterflies, particularly from July when grassland butterflies become more prominent. The hedgerows also provide habitat for birds like the yellowhammer, known for its distinctive song.
